Gorilla Tango Theatre’s most recent installment of Geek Girl Burlesque is here: Temple of Boobs. Joining the ranks of Boobs of Khan and Fellowship of the Boobs (which should be self-explanatory even for the least nerdy), Temple is a sexy tribute to the second Indiana Jones film. More than a few Jones-related vignettes or costumes, this is a full story that plays out as a delightful homage to the film. The script is great and the girls are hilarious, delivering campy slapstick with more than a little Carol Burnette and even more booby. They are clearly having a blast on stage, and their energy spreads to the audience. Especially well cast are Indy and Short Round (who is adamant that she is–despite Indy’s constant misconceptions–a grown woman), whose chemistry will keep you on the edge of your seat for the finale.

Much talent went into this show, which showcases dancing styles from belly to ballet to ribbon to Flashdance-style striptease. The costumes and numbers are extremely creative, with pretty girls personifying everything from life rafts to spikes of doom . . . and perhaps the cleverest costume to involve a ribbon dancer, which I won’t spoil in this review. Now, even the best show can suffer from an awkward call for tips. But this show works in “passing the hat” so that it fits within the plot and even carries a sense of urgency, while still being appropriately self-referential and endearingly shameless.

Temple of Boobs is a fun, witty, racy show with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and sexy ladies to boot. And what’s better than a reboot of an epic film with all characters (and many inanimate objects) played by lovely women swiftly approaching nudity? Not much, kid. Not much.

Do you want to get your hands on Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds?  Of course you do!  MvC2 was one of the greatest 2D fighting games of all time and the latest entry in the series looks to be sweet.  You are in luck, fellow nerds, because Capcom is bringing their Fight Club to Chicago this Wednesday where you can try out the latest build of the game from the Tokyo Game Show. Better yet, they asked us to invite all of you!

Come on out and see who wins in a fight – X-23 or Roll; Hulk or Viewtiful Joe; Iron Man or Morrigan.  Plus, you can always just have Wolverine beat up Cyclops.  The event starts at 8:00, I’ll be there and ready to throw down some fan boy fury.

The idea is to be friendly and show the other participants your interests during your brief conversations. You will spend 3 minutes with each member of the opposite sex, we hope those 3 minutes will seem too short and you will find someone you would like to get to know better.

Have a few questions prepared that you would like to ask your counterparts. Questions that will stimulate conversation and not require just a “yes” or “no” answer, however also don’t require a long essay response. Some examples would be:

“Do you like Star Wars or Star Trek better?”
“Who is your favorite Dr. Who?”
“What is the last comic book you have read that you would recommend?”
“What is your favorite place to eat in Chicago?”
“What the heck do you think is going on in Lost?”

Look at your partners’ name tags for clues to their personal interests. You don’t want to talk about the weather only to realize at the end of the 3 minutes realize you have something in common that you didn’t talk about.

Additional Tips:

1. Smile – Everyone looks and feels better when they are smiling.

2. Relax – You are around fellow nerds, and no one is here to judge you.

3. Be confident – We know you are awesome, we hope you do as well.

3. Keep an open mind – Remember that even if you don’t meet your future partner here, you might meet some good friends. The more connections you make, the better chance you have of meeting someone special.

4. Don’t drink too much – It’s okay to have a little bit of liquid courage, but make sure you have all your conversational skills at your disposal.

The Nerd Event Calendar is a simple Google calendar that will collect as many of the nerdy events going on in the city that we can find. The events will be posted on our website here and will also be available as a public calendar that you can subscribe to. But the CNSC needs your help! Organizing a calendar of this magnitude is epic and even the chief nerd’s combined brain power isn’t enough to handle it. So this is how you can help us out!

If you know of an event coming up that should be listed on the Chicago Nerd Events Calendar, send us an email to events@chicagonerds.com. In the e-mail be sure to include as much information about the event as possible such as:

• Name of the event
• Start/end date and time of the event
• Location with a full address. Please provide the name of the venue when possible
• Meeting details when possible
• Contact information for the event. (Places we can get more information)
• The type of event (Tweetup, lecture, art exhibit, meetup, game night etc)

Once we receive your e-mail we’ll make sure it has all the necessary information and publish it to the calendar and send you a follow up e-mail letting you know we received and what the outcome was. If for some reason we have to reject your submission, you’ll receive an e-mail stating the reasons why and how to go about resubmitting it.

Our one major rule is that the event is available to the general public. Ticketed events are OK as long as tickets were made available to the general public.
