Ada Palmer launches Seven Surrenders at 57th Street Books

March 7 @ 6:00 am - 7:00 am

Tor Books is pleased to announce the launch event for the follow-up to Ada Palmer’s critically acclaimed debut science fiction novel Too Like the Lightning, SEVEN SURRENDERS on Tuesday, March 7th at 6:00 PM at 57th Street Books 1301 E. 57th Street, Chicago, IL 60637. Free to the public, books available for purchase and signing.

Palmer’s debut novel has been praised for its ambitious worldbuilding, unique prose style and refreshing utopian vision. Now, SEVEN SURRENDERS, the second book of the political science fiction epic series Terra Ignota, continues the story of Mycroft Canner and the child Bridger in the year 2454, a utopian future wrapped in the trappings of 17th Century Enlightenment philosophy. Library Journal recently gave SEVEN SURRENDERS a starred review and said “The eloquence of Palmer’s reflections on social issues cannot be denied.”

Ada Palmer is a professor in the history department of the University of Chicago, specializing in Renaissance history and the history of ideas. Her first nonfiction book, Reading Lucretius in the Renaissance, was published in 2014 by Harvard University Press. She is also a composer of folk and Renaissance-tinged a capella music, most of which she performs with the group Sassafrass. Her personal site is at adapalmer.com, and she writes about history for a popular audience at exurbe.com and about SF and fantasy-related matters at Tor.com.
