ISC’s Pi Day “Pi K” (3.14-mile) Fun Run/Walk

March 14, 2015 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am

| $31.41

Illinois Science Council hosts its third annual Pi Day ‘Pi K’ Fun Run/Walk at three Chicago locations plus Elmhurst on Saturday, March 14 – known far and wide as Pi Day. The event benefits ISC’s educational programs that make science fun and accessible to the public.

The Fun Run/Walk – 3.14 miles instead of the typical 3.1 mile ’5K’ – was created to honor the importance of math and science in everyday life. March 14 (3.14) is celebrated internationally in honor of the math constant pi, which is abbreviated to 3.14. The year 2015 adds two extra digits and ISC’s run begins at 9:26:53am for a 10-digit Pi Day celebration. The mathematical constant pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and is often used in mathematics, science, engineering and statistics.

Four simultaneous runs will start and end at Chicago-area Fleet Feet Sports locations.

Date: Saturday, March 14, 2015 Start Time: 9:26:53am

Cost: $31.41 per runner, $21.41 for students 17 and under

Fleet Feet Old Town, 1620 N. Wells St., Chicago Fleet Feet Lincoln Square, 4762 N. Lincoln Av., Chicago Fleet Feet South Loop, 150 W. Roosevelt Rd, Chicago Fleet Feet – Elmhurst, 124 E. Schiller St., Elmhurst

This is a ticketed event and you must register in advance athttp://PiDayRun.org.

March 14 is also Albert Einstein’s birthday so ISC gives a special discount to anyone named Albert or Alberta.

Immediately after the run, there will be a post-run party at each location where participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, slices of dessert pie, bagels and coffee and can compete in a trivia quiz for prizes.

ISC requires advance registration since space is limited and walk-up registration is not allowed. Pi K will take place regardless of weather conditions. More information is available at PiDayRun.org.

The Illinois Science Council is an independent 501c3 organization that promotes science, technology, engineering and math for the adult public. ISC creates engaging public programs on everything from astronomy to zoology, and it highlights the science and the researchers of the Chicago region. Information is at IllinoisScience.org.
