Comics are fond memories, but they take up a lot of space. They’re great pieces of artwork that you would prefer to share rather than simply discard in the trash. The Chicago Nerd Social Club has something that should help everyone.

On June 18th CNSC will be hosting a donation drive for comic books. Collectors can feel free to drop off old comics that they want to get rid of. We will be organizing the books into series, story arcs etc and donating them to the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. In addition to donating the books, we will also be scheduling a time to speak with the Boys and Girls Club members about how comic books impacted our lives, as well as the reasons behind why we love particular characters.

If you’ve got some comics or trade paperbacks in good condition, drop by Third Coast Comics on June 18th between noon and 7pm. If you’re still into comic books, we’ll also be having our comic book meetup from 7pm – 9pm, where we get together and talk current comics events and news.

If you’re also interested in speaking with the kids at the Boys and Girls Club, feel free to drop an e-mail to jeff@chicagonerds.com. The date for the talk has not been scheduled yet, so we can provide you with more details via e-mail.

This is a great opportunity to not only clear out your basement, but to also connect with kids about a medium that you love. I hope to see you (and your comics) on Saturday June 18th at Third Coast Comics!

When: Saturday, June 18th. Noon – 7pm
Where: Third Coast Comics — 6234 N. Broadway Ave, Chicago IL
Cost: Free

Well we’ve spent a few months prepping for this next event. We laid the ground work down with our Comics 101 event a few months ago. What good is a 101 event without a follow up 201 event?
The Chicago Nerd Social Club and Third Coast Comics are teaming up again to bring you Comic Book 201! We’ll be digging deeper into the comic book genre including publishers, explaining that wacky thing called “continuity” and the history of comics. (What’s all this bronze, silver, golden age stuff about anyways?)

Do you have specific questions you’d like to ask? Feel free to e-mail jeff@chicagonerds.com and we’ll do our best work those questions into the presentation. No question is too noob, no question too leet. Ask away!

When: January 28th 2010 – 7:00pm
Where: Third Coast Comics – 6234 N. Broadway Chicago, IL

Can’t make this event but you’re still interested? Don’t worry, we’ll be repeating this event one more time as well as a slew of comic book related events in 2010 so stay tuned!

Be sure to sign up at our Eventbrite page
