For April’s Book Club we will be reading The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin. Set on a world with supercharged geologic processes, some people here can steer these processes. Called orogenes, these individuals are harnessed by their government as soon as they’re discovered—or otherwise, ostracized or killed by the communities they live in. Join us for our discussion of the first book in the Broken Earth Trilogy.

At March’s Book Club we discussed All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders and enjoyed a few minutes with the author via video call. She talked about some of the themes in her book along with the tone of the humor: the fine line of laughing with her characters rather laughing at her characters. Overall, we enjoyed this climate change-themed novel that incorporates both science fiction and magic.
