Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club #44
For May’s Book Club meeting we will be reading Little Green Men by Christopher Buckley, first published in 1999. The novel follows a fictional “Inside the Beltway” talk-show host whose career and life is altered forever when he is abducted by aliens.
A comic tour de force from “one of the best and surest political humorists in America” (Los Angeles Times Book Review), Little Green Men is an uproacious comedy of manners that proves once and for all that the truth is out there. Way out there.
What we discussed at the last book club meeting:
For April’s book club meeting we read Accelerando by Charles Stross. Accelerando is a generation-spanning, longitudinal narrative that follows a beginning much like our world of the 21st century into the deep strange technology of the future where humanity transcends their bodies and finds the Singularity.
This book is dense with ideas, unfortunately, we found the thought provoking ideas to be much more compelling than the story that supported them. This book is definitely worth reading to get Stross take on the implications of the singularity, and some of the stranger social problems it may create.
