Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club #75
For November’s Book Club we will be reading Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. Released last month, the novel companion to the popular podcast has already received acclaim, including its inclusion on the Washington Post’s top science fiction and fantasy picks of October 2015.
“There are things lurking in the shadows. Not the projections of a worried mind, but literal Things” according to this world. Let’s explore it further.
At October’s Book Club we discussed Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. It consists of six nested stories that take the reader from the remote South Pacific in the nineteenth century to a distant, post-apocalyptic future. The consensus found the latter half to be easier to read than the first half, partially due to the unfolding of the book’s structure and partially due to the nineteenth century stylings. Mixed reactions overall: some enjoyed this book a lot while others struggled to get through it. More detailed notes available at Positron Chicago.
When: Monday, December 14th, 2015, 6:30pm-7:30pm
Where: Filter Cafe 1373-75 N. Milwaukee Ave
