Science Fiction & Fantasy Bookclub #16
For our next bookclub meeting we’ll be reading Machine of Death. Machine of Death has been released as a free PDF. This collection of short stories has a simple premise, inspired by this episode of Dinosaur Comics: “a machine that could tell, from just a sample of your blood, how you were going to die. It didn’t give you the date and it didn’t give you specifics. It just spat out a sliver of paper upon which were printed, in careful block letters, the words DROWNED or CANCER or OLD AGE or CHOKED ON A HANDFUL OF POPCORN. It let people know how they were going to die.”
Join us for discussion of our current book as well as the opportunity to voice your opinion for our next selection.
This is what you missed at our last bookclub meeting:
We read John Dies at the End, a comedic supernatural horror novel by John Wong. We found it a very non-serious light read, fast-paced but not very deep. Accessible, but not very thought provoking in the end.
When: Monday, January 10, 2010 – 6:30pm-8:00pm
Where: First or second floor of the Noble Tree Cafe 2444 N. Clark Street Chicago, IL
Cost: Free

Hello! I’ve just stumbled upon the Machine of Death and absolutely love it. Total page turner. Great ideas and awesome stories.
Unfortunately I recently moved to Miami. Would love to have known about your bookclub before I left the Midwest. Your reading list is really good. I plan to follow along from afar!
Happy reading!
