Website Policy

Welcome to The Chicago Nerd Social Club web site! This is our central online hub focusing on articles and information pertaining to nerdy and geeky interests of all kinds, as well as information about geeky and nerdy Chicago area social events and happenings. (If you know of or are planning any cool events, we encourage you to please post your event to the CNSC calendar).

Nerds and geeks are not known for being shy about venturing their opinions when it comes to their favorite areas of fandom and expertise. CNSC welcomes comments, regardless of whether you agree or disagree with posted content, but as CNSC aims to create a safe space for nerds of all stripes to have robust and engaging discussions and debates. In that spirit, just a few things to keep in mind:

  • CNSC reserves the right to remove all comment threads and posted content as the web team sees fit. The web team may or may not give warning if your comments are in violation of House Rules, and you will see a notice stating Content has been removed due to violation of site rules.
  • We encourage you to not just comment on posts, but also share them via social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc) if you feel it’s appropriate. We’re always seeking to reach a wider audience, and welcome your willingness to share our posts!
  • We also would like to interact with you online, and we encourage to to follow us on Twitter @ChicagoNerds; share articles and hold a variety of geeky/nerdy conversations on our Facebook group; and join the CNSC Linked In group for  job-related posts and professional networking activities (such as inquiries about employment opportunities, professional development, etc).
  • Comments are more likely to be deleted if they constitute a personal attack or threat toward another commenter(s), are entirely unrelated to the entry topic, or entail more than a “fair use” amount of someone else’s copyrighted work. (In that spirit, we do not mind if you quote an article in your blog post; just please be sure to cite us appropriately, e.g., Originally published on the Chicago Nerd Social Club website)
  • Comments containing phobic content (based on race, sex, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, etc) are absolutely not tolerated. Neither is obvious trollage. Or spam. But we really, really don’t like phobic content. All of the above will be exterminated by our Dalek-like team of web editors.
  • Our web content focuses on a variety of nerdy and geeky interests, and not everything appeals to everyone. We’re trying to serve the needs of the many rather than the needs of the one. If we do not cover a particular subject, it doesn’t mean we don’t like it – it simply means we don’t have anyone to write about it. Please feel free to reach out to us if you want to make suggestions, or you can even contribute yourself (see below for more details)
  • Although the site focuses on CNSC-events, we do encourage people to contribute articles on nerdy/geeky matters. If you would like to be considered for our web team (there’s no minimum time or content commitment), please feel free to contact us.
  • Interested in purchasing ad space on our site, and/or sponsoring one of our events? Please feel free to reach out to us at, and we will reach back out to you for details.

These policies apply to both the content and tone of comments/posts made in this group. If you aren’t sure if your comment/post is appropriate, ask yourself if it follows “Wheaton’s Law.” If it doesn’t, don’t post it. Remember, the Internet is forever – taking a brief moment to review and rethink a comment or post before putting it on the walls of history can mean the difference between being invited into a conversation….or being asked to leave an argument.

Opinions and material posted on this page are strictly those of their authors and do not necessarily represent the opinion, position or official policies of CNSC unless otherwise noted. Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy of any and all material posted.
