Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club #41

The_Princess_Bride_(First_Edition)

For February’s book club meeting we will be reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman.

What’s it about? Fencing. Fighting. True Love. Strong Hate. Harsh Revenge. A Few Giants. Lots of Bad Men. Lots of Good Men. Five or Six Beautiful Women. Beasties Monstrous and Gentle. Some Swell Escapes and Captures. Death, Lies, Truth, Miracles, and a Little Sex.

In short, it’s about everything.

What we discussed at the last book club meeting:

For January’s book club meeting we read Spin by Robert Charles Wilson which won the Hugo Award for best novel in 2006. In its opening, a 12-year-old boy and his two friends watch all the stars wink out one night in October. The effect is worldwide, with stunning ramifications.

The story flows evenly and quickly and though it is technologically complex at moments, but easy enough for the layperson (aka non-sci-fi geek!) to understand.  An entertaining if not sometime frightening tale of the modern world in peril, overall a great read for sci-fi fans.

When: Monday, February 11, 2013 – 6:30pm-7:30pm

Where: Filter, 1373-75 N Milwaukee Ave Chicago, IL
