Science Fiction & Fantasy Bookclub #36

ForeverWar

For September’s book club meeting we will be reading The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. It explores of the inhumanity of war and of bureaucracy, and of the psychological effects resulting from the time dilation of space travel (a soldier returns home after centuries away),
The Forever War has won the Nebula Award in 1975, and the Hugo and the Locus awards in 1976. It is also listed as the first title in the SF Masterworks series. I hope you will join us for the discussion of this book and help decide our next book selection.

What we discussed at the last bookclub meeting:

We read Wool Omnibus (the collected Wool 1-5) by Hugh Howey. Originally self-published (now picked up by Random House) and started as a short story in 2011, but widely well-reviewed, Wool takes place in a post-apocalyptic subterranean city called Silo.

Overall we were all pleasantly surprised at the quality of writing considering the low price of the book. The story drew us in and left us wanting to know more of the story and the rest of the world that it takes place in.

When: Monday, September 10, 2012 – 6:30pm-8:00pm

Where: Filter, 1373-75 N Milwaukee Ave Chicago, IL
